Native American flute enthusaists should check out a new woodlands-style flute recently added to examples of custom handmade wood flutes available from Magic Wind Flutes. Made from cocobolo, an exotic dark wood that is similar to ebony, this woodlands flute is tuned to the key of G Minor. The flute is 20 1/8″ long and has a diameter of 7/8″. Maximum finger spacing for this Native American flute is 1 3/16 inches. Magic Wind Flutes has added a new example of a custom-made Native American drone flute to its website. Drone flutes are two (or more) flutes built together. Their beautiful tone derives from the fact the drone chamber plays a fixed note that the other flute can play against in harmony. The drone can also resonate with the melody played on its companion flute, causing it to change octaves.
